APTMA slams constricting quotas on cotton yarn export

Staff Report

KARACHI: All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) on Saturday declared there is an plenteousness of cotton yarn in the country and dispelled the reports that its shortage is playing havoc with downstream textile industry.

Apparently, in comeback to a press conference of value added textile sector a couple of days back, Anwar Tata, Chairman APTMA defended the spinners in its commentators conference held at APTMA House Karachi.

He revealed during the last three to four months, production of yarn has increased to 245,000 tonnes per month, out of which, essential for downstream industry is 110,000 tonnes per month. Weaving sector consumes 60,000 tonnes per month hence, additional 25,000 tonnes yarn per month is readily obtainable after imposition of quota of 50 million Kg per month on export of cotton yarn.

He urged the government to provide duty easy import of man made fibre and abolish all the countervailing measures in this regard to reduce load on consumption of cotton and encourage manipulation of man made fibre from 50-50 to 80-20 as the case in other countries. Because of restriction on export of cotton yarn, he added, spinners would be reluctant to significance cotton and it is feared that there would be shortage of raw cotton and yarn from April onward as the industry has cotton only up till March this year.

APTMA Chief sharp out that as per SRO 26(1)(2010)

Crocheting For Myself

As far as I can remember, I have never crocheted or knit anything for myself!  Isn’t that eldritch?  (Oh, wait, the plarn bag I made is for the whole family to use!)  A couple of weeks ago Shalet of Quaint Momma posted photos of a dishcloth she knitted and I was smitten with it!  I wanted to make tracks one immediately!  Shalet was kind enough to post a link to the orderliness she used.  I checked it out immediately!  I was making that pigeon!  I knew it was going to be a knit pattern, okay, I over I can handle knit.  If it’s simple.  Uh Oh, it employed two different yarns.  My dishcloth bubble burst.  But now I was in the sense to knit.  I love the sound of the needles rubbing against each other.  It reminds me of being a stripling again, sitting with my mom while she knit, listening to the needles. (I was probably playing with my Barbies.)  I deliberating I would try a simple seed stitch that I found in a booklet of knit stitches.  I form on too loosely.  My stitches started falling off of the back end of the left needle as I knot.  My hands didn’t work right!  I felt like I had ten thumbs, or no thumbs!  I interweave a few rows.  I felt like tossing it out the window.  This was not working.  This was presumed to be relaxing.  I ripped it out.  That felt sorta sympathetic.

I got out my trusty crochet hook and tempered to the pattern on the yarn label.  Ahhhhh, much better.  I did this while watching the end of a werewolf talkie with Jack Nicholson and Michelle Pfeiffer on TV.  All by myself.  My peace was on his computer, my kids were entertaining themselves…it was such a relaxing evening!

I am working on my subordinate dishcloth now.  It is Sugar ‘n Cream cotton yarn, color #00144, Strawberry. The figure I’m using for this one is on the label of color #00133, Shaded Denim.
